Magnitude of of Livestock Resources

Statistics on growth of livestock 

The contribution of the livestock sub sector to GDP at constant prices was at 2.58 percent in FY 2010-11 and at 2.570 percent (provisional) in FY 2011-12 respectively. The growth of this sub-sector stood at 3.38 percent and 3.54 percent (provisional) in FY 2009-10 and FY 2010-11 respectively.

Though the share of the livestock sub- sector in GDP is small, it contributes to meeting the daily protein requirements, cultivation, production and exports. According to the estimate of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, the population of livestock and poultry was raised to 5.276 crore. Table 01 shows the growth of the livestock and poultry population of the country over the past few years.
